The African Leadership Group and Udacity are offering 5,000 scholarships for African citizens wanting to further their careers in tech with new digital skills. Scholarship recipients will enroll in one of the following Udacity Nanodegree programs. These programs will put learners on the right track towards a lucrative and long-term career in the tech industry.

• Cloud Developer

The cloud developer field is expected to continue to grow rapidly over the next few years with demand for cloud developers soaring across industries. Start by learning the fundamentals of cloud development and deployment with AWS. Then, build different apps leveraging microservices, Kubernetes clusters, and serverless application technology.

3 months (10 hours / week

Qualification Obtained:
This course qualifies you to work as a Cloud Developer

Prerequisites:
– Python & SQL
– Proficiency in JavaScript. You should also be comfortable with Linux basic commands, object-oriented programming concepts, and Networking.

What you will learn:
Start by learning the fundamentals of cloud development and deployment with AWS. Then, build different apps leveraging microservices, Kubernetes clusters, and serverless application technology.

• Data Analyst

This programme prepares you for a career as a data analyst by helping you learn to organise data, uncover patterns and insights, draw meaningful conclusions, and clearly communicate critical findings. You’ll develop proficiency in Python and its data analysis libraries (Numpy, pandas, Matplotlib) as you build a portfolio of projects to showcase in your job search.

Prerequisites:
Knowledge & experience working with data in Python (Numpy and Pandas) and SQL.

What you will learn:
Advance your programming skills and refine your ability to work with messy, complex datasets. You’ll learn to manipulate and prepare data for analysis, and create visualisations for data exploration. Finally, you’ll learn to use your data skills to tell a story with data.

• Full Stack Web Developer

Web development is one of the fastest-growing fields in Information Technology. Web Developers are aspiring creators and engineers who seek to create cutting-edge web solutions to help make people’s lives easier.

3 months (10 hours / week)

Qualifying for:
This course qualifies you to work as:
– Front-end Developer
– Back-end Developer
– Full-stack Developer

Prerequisites:
– Beginner-level experience in Python.
– Experience building front-end websites with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
– Experience using Git for version control.
– You have access to a computer with a broadband connection, on which you’ll install a professional code/text editor (ie. VSCode or Atom) as well as virtual machines (using VirtualBox and Vagrant).

What you will Learn?
The goal of the Full Stack Web Developer Nanodegree programme is to equip learners with the unique skills they need to build database-backed APIs and web applications. A graduate of this programme will be able to design and build databases for software applications, create and deploy database-backed web APIs, and secure and manage user authentication and access control for an application backend. Students will also learn how to deploy a Flask-based web application to the cloud using Docker and Kubernetes.
