CANON Student Development Programme 2022 is a programme designed for upcoming and aspiring photographers to advance their careers and take the next step to become a pro photographer with the Canon Student Development Programme (CSDP). Enter this Competition by submitting your portfolio within the Entry Period and in accordance with these Terms for a chance to be part of the Canon Student Development Programme 2022.
During this programme, 100 entrants will be selected and mentored remotely by industry professionals in relation to their portfolio, 30 of those 100 entrants (as judged by an independent panel) will be selected to attend a 5-day workshop prior to attending the Visa pour l’image festival; and 5 of the 30 participants will be selected to: attend the Hamburg Portfolio review, receive a €2k grant and Canon product.
Eligibility
All entrants (“Entrants”) must:
- Be aged 18 and over on the date of April 29th, 2022;
- The programme is open to eligible participants residing in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The official language of the programme is English and participants will need an adequate proficiency to take part.
- Must have started or completed an education programme during the academic year 2021-2022, or be engaged in internships by agencies or magazines within the same period, or be nominated/endorsed by professionals from the photographic industry

Application Requirements
- Entrants will need to submit a portfolio featuring a maximum of twenty (20) photographs from one story, a description of their project in 200 words or less, together with a bio and image captions. Image files should be JPEGS, max 1500 DPI, 2000 px.
- Motivation statement to attend the Programme;
- A letter of recommendation from the Teacher/School/Agency/Magazine/Industry professional
- All photographs must be original and taken by the Entrant.
- The photographs submitted by the Entrant must not contain anything which may be considered in any way illegal or that which infringes the rights of any third party, including intellectual property, moral or privacy rights.

Selection Process
- After the Entry Period, an independent panel composed of Canon employees and external industry professionals will select 100 submissions for admission to the Canon Student Development Programme (“Programme”). Submissions will be assessed on narrative skill, authenticity, storyline, bio and overall quality of the portfolio.
- Eligible participants with the qualifying submissions will be selected and notified on the outcome of the review by May 16th 2022.
- Those selected will become “Participants” and will be admitted to the Programme. The Programme will comprise three separate modules, with a proportion of the Participants selected for subsequent stages by an independent panel as detailed herein under section
Programme Benefits
- Mentorships – Students will receive three sessions from June to July with a professional mentor, who will offer support in refining their portfolio.
- Workshop – 30 students are invited to Canon’s 5-day workshop in a beautiful Catalan farmhouse in Costa Brava, Spain – concluding with a final night stay at the Visa pour l’image photo festival in Perpignan, France.
- Grant, gear & guidance – The final 5 receive a 6-month mentorship, up to €9K worth of Canon kit & a €2K grant, helping them take the next step to turn pro.
