United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is calling for applications for the 2022 FAO Internship Programme for Young Africans. FAO is leading worldwide efforts to fight hunger and achieve food security for everyone and ensure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food for active, healthy lifestyles. About the Internship Programme

The Internship Program of Human Resources strives to recruit outstanding young women and men who are eager to offer their new perspectives, creative ideas, and the most recent research experience in FAO’s various fields of work with the organization. Taking part in this program gives you an opportunity not only to learn more about the world but also to work in a field that is related to what the FAO does.

By participating in the FAO internship program, interns will be able to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development via the transformation to more efficient and inclusive agri-food systems for greater food production and better nutrition while leaving no one behind.

Reporting Lines: There will be a designated supervisor for the intern.
Technical Focus: Depending on the intern’s profile and the Organization’s needs, he or she will be allocated to various projects.
Tasks and responsibilities: Interns are responsible for carrying out all tasks outlined in a job description produced by the recruiting office before they begin their work.

Internship Benefits

  • The Programme provides a learning opportunity to the participants to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work assignment in a field related to the work of FAO.
  • FAO pays a monthly stipend to interns if they are not sponsored by sending universities or other entities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates of a “legitimate” college or university at the time of application or just recently graduated from college or university. It’s important to know that the Food and Agriculture Organization only accepts higher education credentials from institutions that are approved by the International Association of Universities (IAU) or the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). These institutions are kept up-to-date by these two groups (UNESCO). The list can be found at http://www.whed.net/.
  • Applicants must be experts in a field that fits with the goals and work of the FAO.
  • FAO languages are languages that you should be able to speak and write at least some of (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish).
  • The ability to speak a second FAO language will be seen as a good thing.
  • Make sure you live in a country that is a part of the FAO
  • All applicants should be between the ages of 21 and 30.
  • To be considered for this position, applicants must be able to work in a diverse multinational setting and possess strong communication skills.
  • Only candidates who do not have family members working with FAO under any contractual agreement are eligible for the Internship Program.
  • Applicants should be able to legally live or work in the place where they’re going to do their internship before they start their work.
